understanding myself

The first step in visualizing my brand was to understand myself and the core values I wanted to have represented. I did this by looking at my values, passions, and interests to pinpoint what characteristics define myself. Through this process I found that growth, and patience were at the core of my principles as a designer. Changing perspectives was equally essential when I set design, UX or research goals.

ideation & brainstorming

To visualize growth, patience and change I looked towards nature as inspiration. As something that is constantly changing over time, I felt that nature would best embody the message I wanted to deliver. Specifically, I analyzed what shapes, lines and patterns reoccur in bodies of water plants, and animals, and then applied those findings to the first initial in my name, “K”. I began this process by sketching my ideas on paper and then taking it to illustrator to experiment and iterate. Initially, I had created a logo that mimicked the wings of birds. At this point, I was happy with what I had but felt that the logo was too conceptual and abstract. With some more iteration, I came to a series of logos that each had slight variations. These logos were less conceptual and integrated both the shape of the letter “K” and the forms found in leaves and wings. After a final round of deliberation, I was able to narrow down on one logo that represented myself and my core values.
